Clothing / / 104 views
This Malawian based clothing maker works with a team of people working at the factory. They are a responsible fashion company fusing modern design and traditional techniques made by world artisans for a joyful wardrobe. Depends on seasonality, a number of their factory team comes in to work from the workshop to ensure consistent QC. The company aims to change lives locally whilst also nurturing local talents through their factory and charity combined and invite you to work with them on production of your next collection. The women are at the heart of their social enterprise, with ethics and sustainability at its core.
Many of their fabrics are handpicked from local markets in Malawi, reducing their carbon footprint whilst supporting the local economy. These locally sourced fabrics referred to as ‘chitenje’. They work with a cooperative of women traders to source the most exclusive prints which are enough to produce a limited number of pieces for bespoke collections or to make a limited edition garments on-demand collection so they don’t waste material on overproduction. They thrive themselves on production of ‘season free’ designs encouraging the creation of items to be worn all year round.
Their garments are made on-site in their solar-powered workshop just outside of Lilongwe where each piece is lovingly made by their skilled tailors, most of whom came to them with no prior experience in tailoring. Many of their garments have a unique encrypted QR code that tells you the story of your garment, and shows you the talented artisans who made it.
